Schroeder's Game-Winner Lifts Wolves 2-1 at Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C.---Chicago Wolves head coach Craig MacTavish placed three of his fastest skaters on the same line Thursday night and it paid off with a 2-1 victory over Charlotte at Time Warner Cable Arena.

Center Jordan Schroeder and left wing Bill Sweatt produced 1 goal and 1 assist apiece --- including Schroeder’s game-winner at the 14:19 mark of the third period --- as the Wolves (12-9-1-3) extended their winning streak to three games.

Goaltender Eddie Lack (4-6-3) delivered a season-high 40 saves to earn his first road win of the year.

Charlotte (15-11-1-1), the Midwest Division leaders, lost their fourth in a row despite taking a 1-0 lead at 18:01 of the first period.

Lack delivered several solid saves during a busy opening period before the Checkers broke through with a power-play goal. Michal Jordan faked a slapshot from the right point and passed to defenseman Mathieu Roy, who rifled a shot that flew over Lack’s right shoulder.

The Wolves got even 5:18 into the second period as Sweatt and Schroeder utilized their speed to generate a score on an even-man rush up the ice. Sweatt zipped through the neutral zone and passed ahead to Schroeder, who saw Sweatt breaking toward the goal and set him up for his fifth goal of the year. Victor Oreskovich also picked up an assist on the play.

Schroeder delivered the game-winner at 14:19 of the final period. Anton Rodin controlled the puck at the blue line, skated briefly into the offensive zone and threaded a pass ahead to Schroeder, who lifted it over goaltender Mike Murphy’s left shoulder from close range. Sweatt earned an assist as well.

Murphy (9-6-0), reassigned by the Carolina Hurricanes on Wednesday, finished with 23 saves.

The Wolves and Checkers meet again at 6 p.m. Friday at Time Warner Cable Arena before the Wolves return to Allstate Arena at 3 p.m. Sunday to face Toronto. For ticket information, visit chicagowolves.com or call 1-800-THE-WOLVES.
